ABSTRACT

This intro lays out the economic harms and skyrocketing social inequalities caused by the past 40 years of Western neoliberal policies and legality – and the ongoing societal acquiescence to this state of affairs, which motivated the research and drafting of this monograph. It then provides a brief critical overview of the political-economy and sociological literature concerned with explaining the resilience, embeddedness, and hegemony of neoliberalism; followed by an outline of how this text differs from the extant literature and what it offers. Next, I summarise this book’s objectives and chapter structure, which includes a description of three methodologically distinct primary studies (sc., ethnographic, survey, and experimental) that are presented therein. The introduction finishes with a justification for this book’s research focus on UK and US millennial youth.
