      ABSTRACT

The psychoanalytic field is often criticized for its reliance on clinical case studies as its primary research method. If psychoanalysis is to establish its place among the mainstream psychological sciences, it has been argued, it needs to abandon its reliance on its traditional approach to knowledge generation and adopt methods, such as the randomized double-blind controlled trial, that are more likely to achieve scientific respectability.
