ABSTRACT

Mindfulness has become the term du jour in US society with regard to mental health, medicine, education, the workplace, parenting, and so on. The term’s ubiquity seems omnipresent in virtually all segments of society, especially educated society. But what precisely does the term mean for the counseling profession? The author provides definition and then integrates mindfulness into a healthy lifestyle. Additional components of mindfulness include self-care, healthy self-talk, hobbies, and spiritual or life-meaning practices. For additional information, the author has included the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) to assess and provide additional information on the topic.
