ABSTRACT
This chapter will examine some sources of the resistance of psychoanalysis, even in its current revised versions, to radical revision and to an integration with science. Rigid adherence to previous theories and practice made psychoanalysis more of a system of fixed beliefs than a set of ideas that evolve with the appearance of new data. In this way, it came to resemble religious beliefs, cults, or secular ideologies.
