ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the importance of having an understanding of communicating with legislators and other stakeholders in meaningful and timely ways. Unconventional partnerships with our community and our legislators is an opportunity to implement and sustain relationships with those outside of our school organization. Developing that power and creating intentional connections that have sustained benefit for all parties in the partnership is essential for long-term success. In a joint NAESP/National Association of Secondary School Principals publication the connection between investing in school leaders and the impact it has on student outcomes is evident. The new understanding of the principal’s impact on learning should motivate all policymakers and others with a stake in student learning to advocate for effective, ongoing principal development.
