ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, the author presents five case studies (Nigeria, Ethiopia, Angola, Uganda, and Burundi). After a general introduction to each country, the author presents the gender equality of every country in detail. She then analyses the level of physical integrity of women in these countries considering the presence/absence of physical violence, forced early marriage, female genital mutilation, and human trafficking. Then she analyses female education scores and the presence/absence of discrimination against women in everyday life (i.e. civil and political rights, parental authority, and inheritance rights). Finally, she presents the instruments that each country adopted to contrast gender inequality within its territory.
