ABSTRACT

Mark was excited. For the first time in their working together, Michael and his team engaged easily in a dialogic process that led to a new outcome. Tim started it, by suspending his firmly held opinion that the business needed to invest in new market opportunities. He (authentically) expressed interest in Elaine’s perspective. Con’s Bystand then enabled Nicole to challenge what she understood Elaine to be saying, a challenge supported by Michael. To Elaine’s credit, she didn’t push back, but stayed in ‘suspend’. Jo and Nicole navigated their understanding of what was being said carefully, inviting others to engage, a process that led to Elaine ultimately shifting her position.
