ABSTRACT
As with other emerging technologies, many existing laws and regulatory requirements apply to personal care robots. A partial regulatory framework can be pieced together based on existing measures, including voluntary norms such as ISO 13482:2014, product legislation, and data protection regulation. In this chapter, I introduce the existing frameworks that are applicable to personal care robots, associated problems concerning their applicability, and the aspects that I highlight along the lines of this book, i.e., safety, consumer robotics, responsibility, data protection, and broader implications.
