ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I introduce common risk scenarios for person carrier, physical assistants, and mobile servant robots that could challenge the safety of the user. I assess those risks based on my reasoning from ISO 13482:2014, which establishes safety requirements, protective measures, and safety-related control requirements for this type of robots. I make the distinction between physical and cognitive safety. In each section, I also point out flaws and points for improvement for the standard or for any future regulatory framework for personal care robots. I also include safeguards that could improve cognitive safety.
