ABSTRACT

Students remember collaborating on projects; they remember creating presentations; they remember solving authentic problems; they remember going outside for an activity. They are not likely to remember outlining the chapter, defining the terms in bold, or answering the questions at the end of the section. Most textbooks are boring. They contain an abundance of information, to be sure, but communicating information should not be the primary goal of educators. Teachers should be creating engaging and memorable learning experiences for students, and textbooks are usually not the best tool for that.
