ABSTRACT

I often ask educators to think of the best teacher they ever had when they were a student. It really livens up the room. You can see on people’s faces how remembering what it was like to be a student in that classroom makes them feel special. There is often a sense of excitement that fills the air. What is amazing is the variance between the best teachers. Some were their warm and welcoming kindergarten or first-grade teachers. Others were more content-oriented secondary teachers. For some educators a college instructor or professor had the most significant impact. They cover a wide gamut of ages and fields. Many people recall those who inspired or encouraged them to become teachers themselves.
