ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the mix of kids in a classroom can have a big impact on student behavior, but it is still clear to me that teachers are likely to have an even bigger impact on behavior. As it turns out, the first essential step in effective classroom management is actually liking the students in your classroom. Students are so much more responsive to teachers who genuinely like them, and this often translates into better behavior. But the best classroom management is about controlling behaviour, it’s about winning over the kids – building those connections. Classroom management is so much easier when you have rapport with the kids. Getting to know your students makes all the difference.
