ABSTRACT

Gay male couples had more sex than anyone else, and lesbians less. Surprisingly, when contacted at follow-up, gay male couples were also more likely to be together than other couples. Gay male couples were most likely to be interracial. Both lesbian and gay male couples had a high percentage of households with two working adults, at about 60 percent, while only 48 percent of opposite sex couples had two employed partners. While fewer gay male couples raise children than lesbian or mixed-sex couples, since marriage equality the number is increasing, and men are finding atypical methods for becoming parents. For some, adoption is an option, often in combination with, or preceded by, foster parenting. For example, it is not uncommon for gay male couples to take some vacations separately, and not unheard of for them to each have their own domicile.
