ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the history of the Vespa from the perspective of the men and women who actually built it: the working class. In the international scenario of the Cold War and with Italy having the strongest communist party in Europe, the nation’s factories became a place of incandescent social conflict. Enrico Piaggio ruled the company with an iron fist according to the model proposed by Harry Ford, but without the high wages.
