ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I explore the ideas of existential experience and epiphany. I argue that these are transformative moments for many of us. I argue that the senses are basic to any of our experiences, that experience emerges, as a result of sensual engagement. I ask what it is that happens when we are so overcome, that we cannot speak, when narrative is suspended. And I explore the idea that we see differently as a result of epiphanic moments. Our moral lives have the potential to change as a result of seeing differently, a point also made by Buddhists, and by C. G. Jung.
