ABSTRACT
Art, I maintain, is fundamentally about symbolic transformation, of the world, of oneself. But this does not define Art, a notoriously difficult concept. Even so, Art always has a function. Within the framework of these themes, I discuss both Freud’s and Jung’s responses to Art, and the importance, in particular to Freud, of understanding as a mode of Art Appreciation.
