ABSTRACT

In this final chapter to Event Studies the focus is on how knowledge is created, beginning with a discussion of the main sources including the disciplines and closely related fields, management and policy needs, and reflective professionals. The philosophy of science, epistemology and ontology are discussed, and the dominant paradigm of positivism is introduced. This is contrasted with alternative paradigms including interpretivism and post-modernism. Important research methodologies and methods from disciplines and closely related fields are profiled. Theory development specifically for event studies is fully discussed, including a review of research to date, identification of gaps, and presentation of a detailed research agenda.
