ABSTRACT

Closely related fields of study are discussed as to their attention given to planned events, and to the theory and methods that can be applied from those fields to event studies in general. First and foremost in relevance is leisure studies which provides many of the foundation stones to the study of events, as an activity undertaken in one’s leisure time in many settings. Leisure studies shares a focus on experiences, how to study them, and related benefits or outcomes. Events are also important in the study and management of sport, tourism, hospitality, education and interpretation, communications, media and performance, theatre, venues and clubs, health, urban and rural environments, aboriginal and ethnic groups, and visitor studies.
