ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the rationale to evaluate whether to use one, three, or four Houses of Quality (HOQs). Normally, a less complex product will use a single HOQ, while a moderately complex product typically requires three HOQs, and finally, a complex product uses four HOQs. Products that don’t have much complexity can also take advantage of the HOQ structure and information. Color is one those attributes that received no votes, and it is a feature offered with the product. Next to each CTQ displays the range of values needed to balance all the properties of the product. In the coating industry, several technologies exist to marry the needs of the product substrate and the final topcoat visible to the end user. Compiling all the HOQs will provide the producer of the product a multifaceted view of their product with tremendous details.
