ABSTRACT

This chapter is the first of three exercise plays within the book. The student director is asked to read the short play and then apply a series of guiding questions in the following chapter as initial exercises in the director’s process. These practical exercises help the student director to apply collaborative stage directing principles in the safety of a classroom or workshop setting. The play Goggles is a short, two-character play, set at a bus stop. After just missing her bus, a worn-out office worker named Grayson discovers a pair of goggles on the ground. An alluring Mysterious Stranger appears from the shadows and urges her to try the goggles on. But at what cost?
