ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we investigate the scientific assessment of risk, with a specific focus on how normative judgments that express values are integrated with this assessment. We consider separately, on the one hand, the assessment of the uncertainty, the measure of the probability of the unwanted consequences, and on the other hand, the assessment of the severity, the measure of the (possible) negative impacts of the risk situation.
