ABSTRACT

The training of staff is the single most important component in a highly effective security program. A comprehensive training program creates engaged, motivated employees who have a clear understand of their job and can be effective members of the hospital team. Training should be reinforced on a regular basis to ensure that staff maintains a high level of knowledge and competency. A training program that is effective in teaching staff their jobs is implemented with the creation of a training curriculum. The training program should be outlined in the form of a written policy. The training policy should provide a statement outlining the training program, its purpose, and its philosophy, along with a summary of the training program. The training scope focuses on the knowledge and skill set that staff will require in order to correctly carrying out their job. A sound training program should contain standards—specific topics, behaviors, and knowledge that are taught to all staff.
