ABSTRACT

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in high school are just as important as they are in elementary school and middle school. Strong and cohesive leadership across all levels, school, district, and state is required for comprehensive support for MTSS structures and functions to ensure optimal high school student outcomes. Seven key obstacles are evident as teams hurdle over the obstacles of implementing MTSS on their high school campuses. With each hurdle comes the opportunity to reflect and revise the implementation process, including perceptions and metrics for measuring success. Inclusion, state and district policies, federal law, budgets, standards, unions, and post-secondary expectations are discussed. High school modifications for MTSS structures and functions, Academic MTSS, Social-Emotional-Behavioral MTSS, and team member roles and responsibilities are explored.
