ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book increases the understanding of the vehicle industry in the United Kingdom (UK) and the impact on the industry and the UK economy as a result of Brexit. It examines regulation versus market forces in the vehicle industry to contemplate how the industry may need to respond in the face of the significant changes that are occurring to vehicles globally regardless of whether there is Brexit or not. The Brexit decision coincides with a dynamic time in the evolving history of vehicle regulations. The book concludes that Brexit is a threat to UK vehicle assembly, but that car manufacturing jobs will be under duress anyway as electric and autonomous vehicles emerge in large volumes. The conclusion is that the UK vehicle manufacturing industry is likely to decline; Brexit only determines the speed at which it decreases.
