ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author considers two perspectives on the process of single-session therapy (SST). The first perspective is perhaps more relevant to where the therapist is working alone. The second perspective is perhaps more relevant to walk-in therapy and where there is a team approach. The author discusses what tends to happen at each phase. The second perspective is perhaps more relevant to walk-in therapy and where there is a team approach. The beginning phase of SST is marked by the therapist enquiring of the client what problem they want to address and/or what goal they want to achieve from the session. The creative SST therapist often invents tailor-made interventions on the spot that are impactful and encourage the client to develop creative solutions that address their problems and/or facilitate movement towards their goal. The therapist offers commendations to the client and delivers the intervention on behalf of the therapy team.
