ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author considers the issue of how best the therapist and client can prepare for the face-to-face session so that the client can get the most from it. He provides both the context of such preparation and the content. Session preparation can take place in a number of contexts. Often preparation for the session takes place over the telephone. Many agencies that offer single-session therapy (SST) have a pre-session questionnaire for the client to complete and submit before they attend the session. The therapist says that they would like to get vital information from the client before the session gets underway so that they can help the person get the most out of it. While SST therapists will differ on the issue, what follows is a range of topics that might be included in the content of the pre-session preparation contact with suggestions of how they might be used in the session.
