ABSTRACT

The business went on pretty well. The first year’s operations vindicated the accuracy of the calculations that had preceded entering upon the enterprise. Mr. Evans regretted that he came into the business too late, for no longer could an advertising agent count upon the clean 25 per cent profit that had been possible in Palmer’s time. Our total operations for the first twelve months figured up a gross sum between twenty-seven and twenty-eight thousand dollars, and at the end of the year we had paid our office expenses, salaries, printing, rent, postage and whatever items were incidental to the business, and beyond these the books showed that the estimated net profit of ten thousand dollars had not only been realized, but was actually exceeded by two or three hundred dollars.
