ABSTRACT

This introduction begins by looking at the interface between environmental thinking and psychology. The field of ecocriticism has long shown interest in the mind and various sub-fields of psychology consider environment, but only a few scholars to date do cognitive literary ecocriticism—the approach taken in this book. A brief survey is provided here of the psychological approaches to Rossetti of past critics, which are invariably psychoanalytic. Recent ecocritical approaches to her work are also covered, along with how this book diverges from them. Finally, the introduction includes a brief overview of the entire book.
