ABSTRACT

A specific field of research explores the biological and neural bases of creativity, beauty, happiness, and love: neuroaesthetics. Beauty encourages, invigorates, revives, and also accelerates or improves mood. It makes the heart beat faster, modifying its rate. It makes life expressive, animated, and joyful. Feeling close to the experience of beauty provides an intense somatic pleasure. Different research findings show that the observation of beauty produces a series of stimuli combined with the effect of relaxation; it creates some loss of mental control, a momentary organic process that renders us powerless before the object or the stimulus. Neuroaesthetics is a descriptive and experimental discipline based on qualitative observations and quantitative tests of hypotheses, focusing on the gathering of knowledge about how humans process beauty and art. The brain can elaborate the information, and then adds memories, awareness, and admiration, resulting in the unique aesthetic experience of that particular conception of beauty.
