ABSTRACT

“I can scarcely be made to believe, my dear ladies, that it would not be as honest to be silent of my parents as it is to speak of than; for I would consider one not worthy of fame and the other worthy of infamy (not for herself but for her family) if I had not been born to them. Both they and their forebears grew up in vice and were unable to make themselves liked–in that one lacerated the people with a cutting nail and the other, licking with a flattering tongue, milked the people of their blood. 1 But since I am notorious because of them, though I did not follow in their malice, I do not care if I make myself more known; and therefore, just as you others have done, so will I.
