ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the important principles of project management required for a sport facility operations manager as related to costs, scheduling, quality management, and setting objectives. Through the lens of project life cycles, an explanation of task analysis, use of Gantt charts and project management software, the importance of teamwork, and developing SMARTER objectives will be covered. This will then lead to investigating the various stages of the planning, design, and construction processes, including preliminary planning; the development of the design; actual construction; and preparation for training and the management of facilities. By understanding these issues in advance, the reader will have a stronger conceptual underpinning of the management framework applied to sport facilities and be able to connect that knowledge with the implementation processes inherent to the management and operations of sport facilities.
