ABSTRACT

Benjamin Netanyahu carried the legacy of two generations. Both Ze'ev Jabotinsky and Natan Milikowsky were a presence in his life. Netanyahu's whole life and worldview were shaped by the memory of the historical lapse of Jewish leadership in the face of the approaching Holocaust. After the death of Netanyahu Sr. on April 30, 2012, Ari Shavit wrote that he had been the most influential figure in the Prime Minister's life. Netanyahu was castigated by pundits and publicists for invoking the memory of the Holocaust and using it in this way. Statements by Prime Minister Netanyahu concerning military plans in general, and concerning Iran in particular, are almost non-existent. President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu moved on two separate but related axes. Netanyahu threatened, while Obama applied sanctions and engaged in negotiations. The US media that was loyal to President Obama, led by Thomas Friedman of the New York Times, had spearheaded a campaign against Netanyahu since 2011.
