ABSTRACT

American perspectives of the interior profession began to be established in the age of wealthy patrons and clients in the early parts of the twentieth century where they sought differentiation and creative edge for their interior spaces. The essence of American interior spaces originated from two key design processes. First, American cities were able to generously proportion themselves from the outset, where town planning, freeways, business districts and areas for housing and leisure were expansive and almost unrestricted. The second process was geographical, with two urban seams driven from the east and west coasts, both different in terms of climate, populations and attitude. The American interior design market has always represented a balance between commercial and domestic design. Russia is the largest country on Earth and has several key geographic issues when considering the design of interior space. The climate in Russia presents both a challenge and a benefit to the interior.
