ABSTRACT

The occurrence and complexity of the interior mean that the global profession has a direct responsibility to protect the planet. Alongside architecture, the built environment is an important sector that needs to work as closely as possible in the protection of the environment and the longevity of the planet. Fortunately, owing to improving global awareness of sustainability and ecology, the sourcing of appropriate materials and products for the interior is becoming easier and more available. The practices and processes of the interior are based around the renewed and constructed interior. But this consumption has to be slowed down for the interior space to be seen as an important part of improving human impact on the globe. The interior is connected with the Earth in two key ways: first, through human ecology, and second, through sustainability and the use of materials in the interior which examines the reuse, adaption and renewal of building space.
