ABSTRACT

Globalisation and the digital interior have formed a rich partnership in creating new forms of interior service and experience. While interior space has been slow to fully integrate technology, there are new patterns of integrated interiors that breed an articulation and intelligence which are helping to improve the interior experience but also connect people to the architecture. The interior is increasingly being populated and controlled by a convergence of multiple technologies, real-time analytics, robotics, commodity sensors and environmental control systems. As the global smart home evolves, the domestic house is following the commercial applications of the industry by becoming an automated environment. Domotics is the use of robotics in the home. Immersive digital interior environments could be thought of as synonymous with virtual reality, but without the implication that actual ‘reality’ is being simulated.
