ABSTRACT

A client for an interior design scheme, both commercial or residential, can be effectively anyone who would like to have a professional environment created for a domestic or commercial reason. It can be a commercial company, a brand, an individual or a family. One of the client dilemmas a designer faces is the ongoing working relationship required to ensure a successful outcome. There is also one major difference between client requirements for a commercial project as opposed to a domestic one. The professional practice lexicon can be summed up as a form of delicate balance. When the designer is approached by a client, initial research by the designer must establish the scope of the work for the project. The costing of a project is usually divided into a cost for a particular floor area. This cost is an absolute estimate and really should only be used when considering commercial spaces like offices and retail spaces.
