ABSTRACT

The UK has a rich historical perspective of the interior. From the early building of stately homes and landowners, the interior was used as a barometer of wealth and fortitude, being used as a way to show artefacts, archive objects and art treasures. There is growing recognition that design as a discipline is part of the development and modernisation of India. With a traditional background in textiles and fashion, the Indian design industry is growing and developing. In the education sector, while having a historic educational and training in architecture and textiles, many Indian institutions are now developing graphic, furniture and interior design education. Many design practices offer a mixed economy of work and multi-skilling, and afford the client a single agency that provides a range of professional design services.
