ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter surmises the observations from the book with a series of five topics (Global and local compatibilities; Ethics, sustainability and ecology; Technology; Work age and retirement and Healthcare and hygiene) of future development and influence. As the population of the earth increase and diversify, the role of the interior to support the human race and frame society and cultures dynamically increases. The emerging impact of the interior, as it separates and protrudes out from the architectural envelope, reveals new ways to populate and intertwine space and place. It’s positioned as a great changemaker is outlined, suggesting how humans will interact (through differing proximity) with new spaces, creating new ways to communicate, enhancing human cultures and societies. The conclusion summarises the interior’s temporal and flexible quality, extending its ability to be agile and responsive. It brings into focus the importance of technology and the use of interactive materials enabling new human activities, experiences and frontiers.
