ABSTRACT

China’s twentieth-century economic rise began with the implementation of Deng Xiaoping’s 1979 economic reform plan. The rise has been nothing short of an economic miracle. For three decades, China’s export-led economy has enjoyed a success story second to none. During the 1980s, it was the world’s fastest-growing economy. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded on average over 9% from 1980 to 2002.
