ABSTRACT
Not long ago, American foreign policymakers would celebrate democracies around the world having free elections. On 6 May 2018, Lebanon had its first parliamentary election in nine years, so, one might think that the Trump administration would have welcomed this democratic event. Lebanon also had its first budget in 12 years. Would Trump praise them and celebrate their good fortune? Guess again.
