ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 is about the fundamental principles of training that form the foundation of any successful strength and conditioning program. The principles of specificity, overload, progression, and exercise order are all covered and illustrated in this chapter. The chapter concludes with two examples of incorporating all these principles into strength and conditioning programs. The evidence-based discussion covers velocity specificity of training.

Successful strength and conditioning programs have principles that they are organized around. These are specificity of training, overload, progression, and muscle balance.
