ABSTRACT

A major result of our comparisons of selected criminological theories (CTs) and rational choice theory (RCT) is that the CTs can be derived in modified form from RCT. CTs thus become partial theories of RCT. This means that the CTs are integrated into RCT. We could not provide the required empirical tests which are left for future research. We did not pursue several issues either, in particular crime prevention and the effects of crime. Several areas of further research are outlined. Above all it is important to provide empirical comparative tests of the theoretical analyses provided in the book.
