ABSTRACT

Due to the great number of existing criminological theories a selection for a comparison with rational choice theory (RCT) was necessary. We selected the best theories (which are assumed to be the most intensely discussed theories). Such a selection ensures a severe challenge for RCT. The second issue addressed is which version of a given theory should be discussed. We selected the most recent version by the author or authors of a theory or a classical version. We further discuss hypotheses with variables that have a direct effect on crime.
