ABSTRACT
This investigation has relied upon statistical analysis of some rather novel sources, and raises a number of questions about methodology and sources. A few of these have been dealt with in the text, and the following appendix contains a bit more information about sources (A–5) and methods (A–1 to A–3) as well as fuller results of computations. However, due to limitations of space the material in the appendix and bibliography remains illustrative rather than exhaustive; more complete data may be found in my Ph.D. dissertation, on file at Rutgers University Library and with Xerox University Microfilms, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
