ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a syllabus that written for an elective doctoral seminar taught in the summer of 2019. The extreme minimalism of this syllabus was balanced by a large required course packet. The requirements are to be present and write something substantial and practical. The assessment involves a one-on-one teacher-student meeting before and after the term. The readings comprise five books (B) and a reading packet(P). For the first and second weeks, the readings are: “Method in Philosophy”Descartes, Discourse on Method (B)Hegel, Phenomenology of Spirit (P)James, Principles of Psychology (P), Pragmatism (P), Some Problems of Philosophy. For weeks three and four, the readings are: “Phenomenology and Phenomenological Methods”Husserl, Ideas I (P)Scheler, Ressentiment (B)Heidegger, Being and Time (P)Marion, Being Given (P), “The Invisibility of the Saint” (P).
