ABSTRACT

Practitioners and researchers have many assessments available to test power. This chapter discusses the different methods that can be used to assess aspects of power. The approaches that can be used to measure stretch-shortening cycle performance are outlined. Countermovement, static and drop jump testing methods are dissected to determine the important aspects that require consideration by researchers and practitioners. The concepts of jump testing and load-velocity profiling are also discussed in depth. Both upper and lower body power assessments are considered. In addition, general protocols for the different tests will be included in the chapter. Consideration of how these assessments can be used with different populations is also included.
