ABSTRACT

This chapter considers what is meant by ‘platforms’, multi-sided platforms’ and ‘multi-sided music platforms’, specifically. The chapter provides both global and national examples of multi-sided music platforms, particularly in South Africa and Nigeria. The chapter goes on to consider how multi-sided music platforms operate and the ways in which they deal with the demands of copyright law and privacy law as expressed in their terms of use and privacy policies. The chapter also explains the book’s choice of South Africa and Nigeria as focal countries within the African continent.
