ABSTRACT

This chapter looks, inter alia, at the application of competition law to the manner in which copyright-protected music content and user data are deployed on multi-sided music platforms generally, and to the relationship between platform firms and other firms using their services or rendering similar services. It looks at the general nature and types of conduct regulated and prohibited by competition law in South Africa and Nigeria; the copyright terms and privacy terms applied in multi-sided music platforms from a competition law perspective; and also how competition law infractions may occur in multi-sided music platforms vis-à-vis the use of copyright-protected music content and personal data.
