ABSTRACT

“The Future of Butoh Is …” offers a look at two distinct artists who both claim the mantel of butoh and change the narrative in their own ways. Vangeline/New York Butoh Institute has made it her mission to shed light on the women of butoh. Tania Galindo/Butoh Chilango is an activist from Mexico City who makes work that is both political and also engages with indigenous communities and stories. The closing discussion acknowledges that the diaspora is unfolding around us, and the butoh commons continues to evolve with the contribution of each new participant.
