ABSTRACT

How many times have you signed off on an email to the staff by saying: “Thanks for all you do!” I know I have written those words. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not a bad thing to say to a staff. But as administrators, we need to be about more than words. We can’t just talk about the faculty being a family; we have to act like it is a family. We can cover their class so they can run off campus to see their own child’s program. We can check on them when they have been out sick. We can spend time watching them teach – not to evaluate them, just to support them. As leaders, we need to do more than just talk about supporting our teachers; we want our behavior to reflect that priority. When teachers show their care for students on a regular basis, it makes it a good place for them to learn. When administrators support the teachers on a regular basis, it makes it a good place to work.
